Schedule Yours Free Grieving During the Pandemic
Covid-19 has exacerbated the levels of Family’s grieving losses due to deaths, restrictions on interpersonal associations, lifestyle, and personal care restrictions. Additionally, there is the inability to celebrate traditions, ceremonies, and accomplishments along with financial losses or loss of financial opportunities, expectations, or housing. With those things in mind everyone grieves differently. We need to be aware of some aspects of grief. For instance, if everyone in the family exhibits behavioral or emotional extremes while grieving their ability to help one another is hampered. If everyone avoids confronting their losses, they can experience emotional and behavioral difficulties due to lack of expression. In (2015), Kathryn Rosenberg wrote Finding the Gifts in Grief, in which she encouraged people to focus on love and hope, resilience and growth, and meaning and purpose as we mourn our losses. She described the stillness and calmness she experienced when grieving the loss of her sibling which culminated in a genuine joy and contentment, a deep appreciation and love of life, and the ability to just be. Following the theme of finding the gifts in grief, there are some collaborative activities which can mediate family members expressions of grief and loss. Those activities include the following:
